Welcome to our Year 4 class.
I am Mrs McCaffrey the class teacher and Mrs Powell is our teaching assistant who works with us full time in the classroom. Our curriculum is both enjoyable and exciting with each child working at their own individual level. During the year the children will continue to develop their independent skills as well as co-operating with other children as part of a team or small group.
The topic for this first term is ‘Celtic Britain’. We have a lovely library and role play area which the children are already making great use of! The

Each of the pupils have been given a home reading book, which ideally should be read for 10 minutes each night. Once your child has finished their book, please sign and make a comment in the reading record and your child’s book will be changed the following day. Your child will also read with myself and Mrs Powell on a weekly basis in class, both individually and as part of a guided reading group.
Spelling lists will be given out on a Monday and the children will be tested each Friday. Spellings will be set in line with ‘Thrass’ spellings and phonics scheme that is used throughout the school.
There will also be a ‘Turbo Tables’ multiplication speed challenge on a Friday morning as it is essential that the children become more confident and fluent in using and applying their multiplication facts.
Homework will be given out each Friday and will consist of English and Maths work based on what we have been learning that week. Please could be books be returned no later than the following Thursday in order for me to mark and set new work.
P.E. lessons will take place on a Wednesday and a Friday. Please ensure that your child has a kit in school to change into, this should include suitable footwear.
We hope your child has an enjoyable year with us. We care greatly about the children and will always try to have as much fun as possible in the classroom, but ultimately want all of the children to achieve their best. Please do not hesitate to get in touch or pop in to visit us after school if you have any queries or concerns, big or small, at any point during the year.
